'Twas the night of the pack meeting, when all through the place, Not a Scout was stirring, anticipation on every face; Their hopes were all high, could be felt in the air, Wondering if an award soon was to be theirs; The parents were ready with cameras in hand, Ready to snap a shot of their lad; And leaders in uniforms looking so fine, Had all raised their hands in the Cub Scout sign; When from out of the dark there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my post to see what was the matter. Away to the doorway I flew in a hurry, Tore open the door with my arms in a flurry; When, what to my wondering eyes would appear, But a box of advancements for some boys that are here; These boys must have been working awfully hard, To earn the badges attached to these cards; For working on electives in his Big Bear Scout Book, We can only imagine the days that it took; Christopher Morgan-Wilson has faithfully earned, An arrow point of silver to show what he's learned; The Webelos, too, this month have been working, On the Readyman achievement, they haven't been shirking; Chris Pineda surely has shown that he knows, That for a victim in shock you raise legs, feet and toes; And Matthew and Trevor, from our Den number one, For completing acheivements and having some fun; Soon for their Arrow of Light will be set, As a compass point each for their uniforms get; A handful of patches were there for the taking, Of each of our boys who did such wonderful baking; They worked long and hard to make beautiful treats, As good as they looked they must have been great to eat; At last I came to the thing at the bottom, One for each boy, whoever had brought 'em; For each leader too, one size all would fit, A patch that says we are a Quality Unit; From where the awards came, by whom they were sent, I know not, and now that the contents are spent; Will your name, or yours, when next time we meet, Be called as we celebrate a new set of feats? Until then, I leave you with one last thought, Scouting is more than just play and learning some knots; A Scout gives good will and does what is right, "HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!"
